The off-season is difficult for some NHL clubs, as some European players present complexities with transfer agreements.

For the New York Rangers, to control these rights to negotiate with their prospects, they have to make sure they don't let them become UFA's.

The Rangers have two prospects for whom they'll need a solution by June 1st, or these players could re-enter the NHL Draft.

Many teams are losing the signing rights to some of their prospects if they don't ink them to ELCs by Saturday night:

Maxim Barbashev

Maxim Barbashev is one of those draft picks, who was selected 161st overall in the 5th round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

Barbashev, who played 44 games in the QMJHL with the Rimouski Oceanic, posted 26 points( 12 G, 14 A) during his stint there.

He started his QMJHL career with the Moncton Wildcats in 2021-2022.

Barbashev is a physical forward who plays with an edge, and is an extremely tough player to play against. He has good offensive skills and a good shot, but will need to work on developing consistency in his game.

The Rangers must decide by June 1st if this is the kind of player they want in their system.

With his OHL season over, #NYR prospect Bryce McConnell-Barker (R3, 2022) will be joining the Wolf Pack for their play-off push.

The release of Maxim Barbashev (R5, 2022) pretty much spells the end for his chances at an ELC in my opinion.

His NHL rights expire June 1st.

Oliver Tärnström

Tarnstrom was selected by the New York Rangers in the 3rd round of the 2020 NHL Draft, 92nd overall.

The Center played the 2023-2024 Hockey Allsvenskan season with Brynäs IF, playing 45 games this season scoring 17 points( 3 G, 14 A) in that timeframe.

Currently, on CapFriendly, this prospect has no contract history with the New York Rangers. As it seems he has completely fallen off the radar of the big club.

It seems as if the decision has been made by Chris Drury what the fate of this Swedish forward will be.
