New York Rangers Set To Make Massive Decision Regarding Several Top Prospects: Fans wont be happy
NHL Insider Vince Mercogliano has dropped a bitter truth on "X" for New York Rangers fans. Despite the team advertising a "retool" and giving the younger prospects a shot in the lineup, it's doubtful we'll see them get a start as a Blueshirt at the beginning of the season.
The New York Rangers will complete an unpopular move at the beginning of the season, according to NHL Insider Vince Mercogliano.
The USA Today reporter believes that even though the New York Rangers need to give their prospect pool a look in the lineup this season, they won't receive time in the NHL until much later in the year.
We've seen this game play out before, with
Brett Berard and
Brennan Othmann getting called up from the AHL Wolfpack after injuries crippled the lineup, and it appears to be the philosophy yet again.
Mercogliano believes that
Noah Laba, Gabe Perreault,
Scott Morrow, Brett Berard, and Brennan Othmann need more time in the league.
But will Mike Sullivan make it happen?
The Rangers Suspiciously Hold Onto Veterans, While Letting Its Prospects Languish in the AHL
The New York Rangers have plenty of prospects available who could find themselves in the NHL, notably Brett Berard and Noah Laba (who deserves a look this season).
However, with the Rangers' win-now philosophy, the team has decided to bank on forwards like
Conor Sheary and
Jonny Brodzinski in the lineup, as proven veteran talent rather than risking it all on Laba, who isn't fully developed yet.
It'd seem like Brett Berard has found a spot in the regular roster; he'll be competing with other prospects like Noah Laba and Gabe Perreault for a
spot with 17 forwards remaining in the lineup at this point in the preseason.
The team will have to decide on 5 more cuts after this week, and we could end up seeing both names headed back to the AHL, unfortunately.
