New York Rangers longest-tenured player reportedly set to be traded following mutual agreement
According to recent reports New York Rangers longest-tenured player Chris Kreider and the organization just may be parting ways this offseason after a 13-year tenure.
By now it's no secret that General Manager Chris Drury will be making some drastic changes this offseason as he spent the majority of the 2024-25 season re-tooling the Rangers roster on the fly. As he traded away captain
Jacob Trouba and
Kaapo Kakko.
And now, according to recent reports it look the New York Rangers are set to part ways with 34-year old veteran forward Chris Kreider. The Rangers longest-tenured player was involved in a ton of trade speculation last summer, and that he only has two-years remaining on his $6.5M AAV contract the Rangers are looking to make a trade.
Rangers veteran Chris Kreider reportedly feels a mutual feeling on parting ways with the organization
In a recent report from Phil Kocher, Chris Kreider and the New York Rangers have reportedly reached a mutual feeling on parting ways with each other as a fresh starting may be needed:
"There is a strong sense that the feeling is mutual and that after 13 years with the organization, Kreider recognizes that the relationship has run its course and that he needs a fresh start."
However, in Chris Kreiders exit interview, he stated that he wanted to remain in New York:
"This is home for me. This is the organization that gave me an opportunity to live out my dream. I've developed so many incredible relationships and grown up and spent so much time in this area. So, obviously, this is where I want to be and this is the group that I want to help in whatever fashion win hockey games."
Chris Kreider has been a long-time leader of the New York Rangers organization and can still very well contribute to the team despite his recent decline in production this past season.
