New York Rangers Franchise value Continues To Grow: 2nd highest in the NHL behind one Canadian team
New York Rangers owner James Dolan must be thrilled to hear the latest news about the Original Six franchise he owns. Its latest valuation has placed the team right behind another in a list released by Sportico.
The New York Rangers' value has skyrocketed lately, as the team's latest
valuation by the website Sportico has it placed right behind the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Rangers' value before the beginning of the 2021 NHL season has them placed right behind the Maple Leafs, who are currently valued at $4.25 billion.
While owner James Dolan must be thrilled
as the NHL team is worth $3.65 billion according to the website, which released the latest list of facts relating to the league this year.
Fast forwarding to 2025, the Rangers now have a valuation of $3.65 billion, which is up 12 percent from last season's valuation of $3.25 billion. The Leafs once again held down the top spot this year, and they have an estimated value of $4.25 billion.
The Rangers have consistently held the 2nd spot in the NHL's annual rankings for the past seven seasons, and like other franchises, their value has exponentially increased in that time frame.
The Canadian Franchise Who Sits Behind the New York Rangers
The NHL is a Canadian league, so you'd think the top-3 of three of the list would belong to teams that reside in the home country from which the organization originated, right? Wrong.
The Rangers, who are celebrating their 100th season in the NHL, are 2nd only to the Montreal Canadiens, who are valued at $3.3 billion, with their rivals the Boston Bruins in 4th at $3 billion.
As a league that has been dominated by the Original Six since its inception, it'd make sense that the top teams would be those that were born at the beginning of it.
The Rangers are so valuable due to a multitude of factors, as owner James Dolan has a controlling interest through the MSG Corporation, which owns the Rangers, New York Knicks, and the historic Madison Square Garden.
Owning the building (MSG) has a positive effect on the value of the team, while merchandise sales and a star roster have helped maintain the team's rising value since 2021.
The team has a rich network of partnerships with JP Morgan, Delta Co., Pepsico, Spectrum, and others. And Dolan is in the TV Business with the
Regional Sports Network: MSG Networks.
So, despite their terrible performance last season, Dolan is taking it all to the bank.
Has James Dolan's ownership helped put the Rangers on the right path? So far, he's rewarded Chris Drury for failure, we think.
