For 1st overall pick of the New York Islanders, Matthew Schaefer, his living situation on Halloween turned contentious. Living with Matt Martin meant he'd run into former NFL quarterback Boomer Esaison, who showed up awkwardly in a Rangers jersey, and hilarity ensued.
New York Islanders rookie is living with AGM Matt Martin for the start of the 2025-26 NHL season. The former Islanders star, who is married to a former NFL quarterback and WFAN analyst, showed up at Matt and Sydney's Halloween party dressed up in a Rangers uniform.
Awkward, Schaefer would mock Esaison, but he should check the standings in the Metro right now.
In a photo posted to Sydney's social media, Schaefer - showing off a big smile - is seen jokingly covering the jersey as best he can. Esiason is also cracking a smile, hugging Schaefer and holding a thumbs up.
The jokes continued, as Martin and family gave Schaefer a seat at the "kids table".
It looks like Boomer Esiason has the right idea for a Halloween costume.

Matthew Schaefer was selected 1st overall in 2025 by the New York Islanders. He joined the team to start the 2025-26 NHL season, to the surprise of no one, he's been on a tear with the Patrick Roy-led team.
He's scored 8 points (3-5) in 11 games as the Islanders' newest top defenseman after the trade of Noah Dobson to the Montreal Canadiens.
The Metropolitan Division team is still struggling to find an identity, and will prove to be a feisty competitor to the Rangers this year.
