Major update: Ryan Lindgren's future with the New York Rangers confirmed
The New York Rangers and GM Chris Drury need to improve the blueline, as they were torn apart, by the ravenous Florida Panthers in their Stanley Cup run.
As they team is reportedly looking to trade away Captain
Jacob Trouba, there is still another defenseman whose future is left to ponder.
That would be RFA
Ryan Lindgren, the "warrior" of the New York Rangers, who many thought Drury would move on from, may actually be working to extend the defenseman.
According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli the Rangers are working to the bone, as Lindgren is a priority for GM Chris Drury to sign.
There appears to be progress in contract talks between the two camps:
«The Rangers are also grinding on an extension for Ryan Lindgren, and his initial asks appear to be pretty reasonable,» Seravalli reports.
The 26-year-old defenseman, likely has potential left yet to be utilized by the team and has a +99 plus/minus rating on ice, with the team, over the past six seasons.
He has been
Adam Fox's defensive partner on the top pair, but injuries have plagued both players of the Rangers best pairing. Over the last five seasons with the Rangers, he has missed time due to ongoing injuries, but remains mostly healthy this year.
He played 76 games in 2023-2024, scoring 17 points( 3 G, 14) and a plus/minus of +12.
Lindgren's last contract is ending, with an AAV of $3 Million, for the last 3 years. According to Evolving Hockey if Lindgren were to sign a one-year deal with the Rangers to walk to UFA in 2025, he could fetch $3.176 M AAV.
Evolving Hockey projects that should Lindgren sign long-term in New York, he could end up with an AAV of $4.888 Million.
It seems signing could be likely, as Lindgren's ask seems doable for the Rangers, but should talks go south, they could end up trading him.
