Jonathan Quick issues a reassuring statement for the Rangers following Shesterkin's injury
New York Rangers veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick issues a confident statement while speaking on the fact of him becoming the starting goaltender while Igor Shesterkin is sidelined with an injury.
According to Mollie Walker of the New York Post the Rangers have recently placed Igor Shesterkin on Injured reserve (IR) after sustaining an upper-body injury.
Igor Shesterkin is going on IR with an upper-body injury, per source.
However, as The New York Rangers may be without Igor Shesterkin for a few games, veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick is more than prepared to take on the starting goaltending role.
The 38-year goaltender is a two-time Stanley Cup champion and a proven veteran, so when it comes to stepping up and taking on a bigger role he remains calm and ready.
Here's what Quick had to say when he was asked about taking on the role of the starting goaltender while Shesterkin remains sidelined for a bit:
«It doesn't change anything,» Quick said. «No matter who is in the lineup, who's out of the lineup, we are doing everything we can to prepare for a game tomorrow night You go one game at a time, so that's the focus of the whole group, on game at a time.»
Despite his calmness Quick will be stepping into a pressure-filled role, as the New York Rangers are on one of the worst downfalls in history. As the Rangers have lost the last 15 out of their 19 games.
Serving as the backup goalie over the past two seasons, Quick has been reliable and continues to show he can be counted on as this year alone he has recorded a 5-4 record, 2.69 goals against average and .907 save percentage.
Quick has the chance to prove himself again, as the Rangers are set to take on the Boston Bruins tonight at 7:00PM.
