Todd McLellan had just recently met with the media and provided an update on their top six forward, Patrick Kane, who wasn't able to play against the Oilers and now won't be suiting up to face the Sabres or Islanders either.
"According to Bruce, McLellan also shared that Kane skated on Oct. 21 and will be evaluated on Oct. 25. The Red Wings play the St. Louis Blues that night."

It appears that the timeline for his return just grew longer as a result of the latest news from the team. Something they can't afford as he has established himself as a key player since he had return, just last season he managed to tally a total of 59 points (21 G, 38A).
