Police have given an update into the investigation into the death of former NHLer Adam Johnson
Adam Johnsonwas killed when his neck was sliced during a game between the Nottingham Panthers, and Sheffield Steelers in the EIHL. We're now a year out from the incident, which saw the suspect have their bail extended.
As the police continue to investigate the play, which led to Johnson's death they have once again decided to extend Matt Petgrave's bail once more.
They will extend his bail until January 20, 2025, as the police involved with the ongoing case want to be sure the details are correct. Until they have the right information, no decision will be made.
"We have been working meticulously to fully understand the unprecedented circumstances in which Adam sadly lost his life.
This complex investigation into Adam's death remains ongoing and we are continuing to work closely with the Crown Prosecution Service.
Our thoughts remain wholeheartedly with Adam's family at this time."
It seems as if the situation with Johnson's case could be considered unusual, as cases don't extend beyond a year. Not to mention a queue of cases which has created a backlog.
"There are massive delays in the British criminal justice system. Cases are taking a long time to be brought to charge," criminal defense lawyer Quentin Hunt told The Associated Press.
A report published less than two years ago said there was a backlog of 25,000 devices waiting to be examined.
"My cases are regularly being delayed by up to a year because of delays in getting back digital analyses of devices," Hunt said. "It is notorious within the British justice system, why cases are taking longer to be brought to a charging decision."
There are multiple reasons why the British police have failed to make a summary judgment on Johnson's death.
This seems to be common within the last few years, Johnson's family, and friends may have to exercise patience beyond their means to get the resolution of Adam's untimely death.
