The Presidents Trophy, No. 1 seed in the East and first place in the Metropolitan Division, are all within the Rangers grasp tomorrow with just a win. Peter Laviolette in just his first season has accomplished wonders for the Rangers organization, and including the players. Artemi Panarin and Alexis Lafrenière have had career years this season, navigating through major injuries, and to end up as the best team in the league is incredible. Unfortunately all this has not convinced many of the naysayers, who still doubt the Rangers as legitimate contenders. One of the reasons, is because they hold last seasons playoffs against Panarin, who in the seven game series against the Devils, only had two assists, and was very much neutralized. Rangers insider Larry Brooks believe Panarin is poised to redeem himself after the flameout in the first round.

Apparently Gerard Gallant might be to blame for Panarin's performance in the playoffs, holding him back from playing his style.

"Panarin has been resolute in refusing to discuss last year's playoffs in which a tenuous relationship with coach Gallant deteriorated. We've been told that the winger was aired out by the coach in front of the team in an incident that did not go over well with anyone."

Whatever might have happened, it's in the past. Laviolette clearly is an upgrade in the coaching department, and unlocked another level in Panarin people did not expect. Let's hope it translate perfectly in the playoffs!
