NHL insider publicly leaked three players the New York Rangers are set to sign in the off-season
As the dust finally settles on the NHL trade deadline, New York Rangers GM did a respectable job with the cards he was dealt. That said, teams aren't allowed to make anymore trades until next season, but are allowed to sign contract extensions. So far, the Rangers have a handful of players heading into free agency, and Drury has the power to make a deal before it's too late.
As the Rangers look to the future, securing talented assets should be a top priority.
In this article, we look at 3 players in particular Chris Drury should consider re-signing before the the offseason.
Rangers should resign these 3 players
Miller is a notable restricted free agent who the Rangers could look to sign to a contract extension. While the 25-year-old defenseman was the subject of trade rumors leading up to the deadline, he stayed put.
With the 2018 first-round pick being a key part of the Rangers' blueline and starting to heat back up, it would be understandable if they inked him to an extension.
Big Matt Rempe has been involved in his fair share of controversy during his tenure with the Rangers. He's feisty, strong, and has tons of potential. Rempe demonstrated a strong development, with his size, speed, and two-way play making.
By locking him into a long-term contract before the offseason, the blue Shirts would not only solidify their roster but also send a clear message that they are committed to protecting their players, and building a competitive team. He's a skilled enforcer Drury cannot afford to lose.
Cuylle has broken out in a big way for the Rangers this season. In 64 games, he has set new career highs with 17 goals, 17 assists, and a plus-8 rating. He has also once again made a major impact with his physicality, as his 232 hits effectively show.
It's also worth mentioning that Cuylle has a ton of potential, and could be an affordable option for Drury moving forward. If Drury can lock him into a team friendly deal, the value the Rangers get in return makes it well worth it.
While the Rangers focus on cementing their spot in the postseason, it should be interesting to see what Drury has up his sleeve in these next weeks.
