Jake Geuntzel's fate with the New York Rangers has officially been confirmed

The Carolina Hurricanes decided to give up on trying to re-sign forward Jake Guentzel and have officially traded his signing rights to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In return the Hurricanes acquired a third round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

The #Canes have acquired a 2025 3rd round pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Jake Guentzel.

However, with that being said the Lightning have less than 24 hours to try and get a final deal done with Guentzel before he becomes a free agent.

Over the last few weeks there has been lots of speculation that the New York Rangers were targeting Jake Guentzel if he hits the free market, this could still very well happen, but it's unlikely considering Tampa Bay made a trade knowing they can sign him.

It was reported that Jake Guentzel wanted an 8-year contract at $8 million and reportedly the Hurricanes didn't reach that until this week, and now with the Lightning making massive moves to create room for Guentzel during Day 2 of the Draft by trading Tanner Jeannot and Mikhail Sergachev.
