The New York Rangers face a major decision when it comes to restricted free agent defenseman K'Andre Miller who remains with the team after the NHL Entry Draft.
Several pundits felt that the Rangers may try to trade Miller at the draft to maximize the return as they have decided not to pay the money Miller is looking for.
Draft changes Rangers plans for Miller
Now that the draft is complete and Miller still with the team, the Rangers will now face a difficult decision as he could be a subject of an offer sheet from other NHL organizations or potentially keeping Miller at least in the short term to prevent a disaster with a return.
It became clear during the draft that the returns that were coming back for Miller were not what general manager Chris Drury was looking for.
It's also known that the Rangers are not interested in signing him into a long-term deal which likely means a short-term deal could be in order.
If the Rangers are unable to trade him or get the value they're looking for, it's quite possible that they could sign him to a one-year deal to retain his rights and help prevent a potential offer sheet that would not be a great return considering the money he may make.
The Rangers are in the middle a major remodel of the team as Drury has made several trades over the past season into the offseason to give the team a completely different look.
More changes to come this offseason for the Rangers
The Rangers have made several important changes to the roster and behind the bench which includes the trade recently of
Chris Kreider to the Anaheim Ducks and the dismissal of former head coach Peter Laviolette while hiring former Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan.
Rumors have been swirling around the organization of the potential departure of star forward
Mika Zibanejad and the question marks swirling around star forward
Artemi Panarin who an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
Many decisions are looming, and fans will need to wait and see what management has in store for the Rangers but it's safe to say that the team will look vastly different when they arrive for training camp in September.
