Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette spoke to the media after Rangers won there 54th game of the season after defeating the high-flying New York Islanders 3-2 in a shootout. He stated that the team along with himself should be proud of what they have accomplished this regular season as they have now crossed a new franchise record for wins in the regular season.

It's becoming a trend where people feel that the regular season has less meaning than it should as the focus for all media and fans is the playoffs. But Laviolette stated in the post game that you need to play the regular season to get to the playoffs and to put your best foot forward is to have as many wins as possible and collect two points.

Of course, the playoff season is very different season altogether where the meaning does change and the stakes are far higher.

The Rangers through 81 games has a record of 54-23-4 for 112 points. They have scored 278 goals four with 229 goals against for a goal differential of plus 49. With 29 wins at home this will certainly bode well in the first round as they will hold home ice advantage throughout the entire playoffs.

The Rangers are still waiting to find out who they will play, as several teams are still during trying to land the two final playoff spots. It will be a fascinating finish for this season.
