The Carolina Hurricanes have recently acquired K'Andre Miller in a sign-and-trade, paying him a pretty $60 million contract over the next 8 years. You'd think they signed Bobby Orr with how Eric Tulsky sang his praises.

In return, GM Chris Drury got a haul of futures that could turn into something promising down the road. The Carolina Hurricanes made a major deal by acquiring K'Andre Miller in a trade, paying him a total of $60 million over the next eight years.
Miller would show promise early in his career, only to fall off recently, giving GM Chris Drury hesitation to sign him long-term. The trade would be another move in his ongoing retool, which looks to reshape the lineup.

For GM Eric Tulsky the investment cost him Scott Morrow and a 1st and 2nd-round pick. Futures come at a high cost, especially if your prospect pipeline is picked dry, and for Tulsky, he'd rather sing Miller's praises.
«It's a big price to pay, but we think he's a great fit for our system,» Tulsky said. «You hear me talk a lot about how hard our scouting department works to identify players who will fit. He was one of them.»

Rod Brind'Amour shared a similar sentiment, emphasizing that Miller is exactly the kind of player he was looking for.

«Everybody's looking for big defensemen who have that mobility,» Brind'Amour said. «He certainly has the potential, as we've seen. I think it's a really good move for us. We needed a guy like that.»

The Hurricanes believe the sizable frame of Miller's (6'5") could lend well to him developing into the elite defenseman in the NHL we expected in New York.
Tulsky believes that he's the perfect fit for the Hurricanes system, and with how we've seen Rod Brind'Amour turn players' careers around, Miller could be the next beneficiary of his tactics.
