Former New York Ranger and Two-Time Stanley Cup Champion Scott Gomez has found himself in a new role, in the USHL. He's joined the Chicago Steel as Head Coach to start the 2025-2026 season.
Gomez has found himself in leadership roles across the NHL, BCHL, and now USHL.
Before shifting down to Junior Hockey, the former Ranger was a part of the Islanders staff, spending two seasons as an assistant coach.
"I am honored and thrilled to take on the role of Head Coach for the Chicago Steel," said Gomez. "This organization has a tradition of success and a commitment to developing players both as athletes and individuals. My goal is for the Steel to be the top destination to prepare players for the next level.
"I look forward to working with this talented group of young players, the coaching staff, and the entire Steel community."
Gomez played two seasons with the New York Rangers during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.
Beforehand, he'd begin his career with the team's Hudson River Rivals, the New Jersey Devils, and would win two Stanley Cups in 1999-00 and 2002-03 playing the infamous NZ-Trap.
Depending on who you talk to, love or hate the system for its conservative style of tactics on the ice.
Gomez brings a dearth of leadership, and knows what it takes to win as he joins the Steel, a junior hockey league team, typically a stepping stone to the NHL for some players.
