Former New York Rangers assistant caption and 703-game veteran has officially announced his retirement from the National Hockey League.

According to several reports today, the New York Rangers former sixth-round pick (157th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Jesper Fast, has officially decided to retire from the NHL after 11 seasons, as he missed the entire 2024-25 season.
Fast needed to step away from the league after sustaining a brutal neck injury that required surgery in August 2024 during the Carolina Hurricanes final game of the 2023-24 season, making him miss the last two playoff runs the Canes had.
"Worst-case scenario. Just when the fun is about to start, you're sitting on the sideline. You just want to help your team and be part of it... It's definitely one of the toughest periods in my career."
The 33-year-old veteran announced the news in an official statement posted by the Carolina Hurricanes earlier on Monday morning:
"I never took for granted the privilege of playing in the best league in the world.

I am grateful for all of the teammates, coaches, staff and fans from the Rangers and Hurricanes who made my time in the NHL so special, and for my family for everything they did to help me achieve and live my dream.

I'd also like to thank Nässjö HC and HV71, organizations that played a vital role in my development into an NHL player."
Jesper Fast was a part of the New York Rangers organization for 10 years and even repped an «A» for four years during his time with the team, before he joined the Hurricanes as a free agent on 2020.
Fast took part in 703 regular-season games over his career, scoring 248 points, including 91 goals, with a plus-41 plus/minus rating. The Swede also appeared in 80 playoff games, scoring 27 points, including 14 goals.
On behalf of everyone here at NY Rangers Insider we'd like to wish Jesper Fast nothing but the best during retirement.
