Chris Drury reveals he's open to all options when it comes to hiring New York Rangers next head coach

Now that the New York Rangers have officially fired head coach Peter Laviolette on Saturday, General Manager Chris Drury's search for a new head coach starts now.
This is now the third time since 2021 that the Rangers are looking for a new head coach, after the New York Rangers and General Manager Chris Drury announced that the organization is parting ways Peter Laviolette.
After head coaches David Quinn, Gerard Gallant, and now Peter Laviolette have all been fired, Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury must try to find a specific criteria that truly meets the Rangers needs.
After another disastrous season from the New York Rangers, Chris Drury revealed that he is open to looking outside the box when it comes to hiring a new coach.
Which means he's ok with hiring a new head coach who has no prior experience coaching within the National Hockey League.
«My eyes are wide open,» Drury said. «I am not going at this with any preset dispositions. If it is a first-time coach and it's the best fit, great. As far as what the team needs, again, we're just trying to find the best fit we can to do what we need to do. And obviously, our goal is to try and be back in the playoffs next year, so we're looking at a lot of different scenarios and a lot of different candidates.»
According to recent reports from Rangers reporter Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today these will be the eight head coach candidates to keep an eye on are David Carle, Jay Leach, Michael Peca, Joel Quenneville, Mike Sullivan, Rick Tocchet, John Tortorella, and Jay Woodcroft.
But it still remains unknown how long it will take for Chris Drury to find his new head coach, but hopefully it he takes the time to find the right one so the organization is not back in the same spot just a year from now.
