Tragic news strikes as former two-time National Champion sadly passes away at 78-years old

Some very unfortunate news strikes the hockey community as former defenseman and two-time National Champion Randy Ward has sadly passed away at the age of 78-years old.

According to reports from The University of Denver hockey team made was the first to announce to the heartbreaking news of the loss former defenseman Randy Ward, who sadly passed away on May 9th.
Ward played at DU between 1966 and 1969 and helped guide the Pioneers to back-to-back National Championships. Denver defeated North Dakota 4-0 in 1968 and Cornell 4-3 in 1969.
Ward, who originated from Calgary, played 84 games and managed to tally 12 goals and 34 assist for a total of 46 points during his career. It was reported that after college, Ward pursued his love for the outdoors and agriculture.

Randy was known as quite the outsides man, has he enjoyed many activities and hobbies after his hockey career.
A skilled cattleman himself, he was also a serious sportsman, by hunting, fishing, and golfing across North America. His golfing accomplishments ranged from several course records to some holes-in-one.
Born January 25th, 1947, Randy is survived by his spouse Marilyn; children Jeff and Andrew (Allison); grandchildren Kalen, Keira, Declan, and Liam; and larger family.

A memorial service was reported to be held on Monday, May 26, at 2 p.m. MT at Eden Brook Funeral Home in Calgary, Alberta.
