Former New York Rangers enforcer shares his honest thoughts on Chris Drury's latest offseason moves.

New York Rangers former tough guy, John Scott, is a major fan of Chris Drury's offseason moves as he believes the organization got a lot more than fans realize, by trading K'Andre Miller to the Hurricanes and acquiring Vladislav Gavrikov from the Kings.
Scott openly stated that trading K'Andre Miller to the Carolina Hurricanes was a 4-for-1 deal for the New York Rangers, as nothing else would've been possible without making that move.
«That's insane. I don't think people realize how good that is,» Scott said on a recent Dropping the Gloves podcast. «[Rangers general manager Chris Drury] turned K'Andre Miller into Gavrikov, a first [round draft pick], a second, and a prospect, Scott Morrow, who could potentially crack the lineup this year for the New York Rangers.»

New York Rangers Desperate To Bounce Back This Upcoming Season

Last season the New York Rangers faced many struggles and it was clear that Chris Drury needed to make drastic moves in order to give the organization a better chance at success during the 2025-26 season.
One of the areas the Rangers struggled the most was in the defensive zone, as Scott would say the Rangers were, «horrendous in their D zone."
As the 2025-26 season gets closer, more speculation grows as to who Mike Sullivan will pair Gavirkov with, many believe he will be placed on the top pair with the Adam Fox or even a shutdown second pair with Will Borgen.
However, Scott believes there is only one right option when it comes to placing Gavrikov in the Rangers lineup:
«Adam Fox will be paired with him. They will play 25 minutes a game and they will be very, very good. They will be downright scary to play against,» the former Rangers forward said confidently. «Gavrikov will be that security blanket. Fox will be able to roam, and Fox is a good defensive defenseman too, don't get me wrong. So, this is a very scary pairing. I like this. And you have a coach in Mike Sullivan who knows how to deploy them.»

The New York Rangers signed Vladislav Gavrikov to a 7-year, $49 million contract on July 1. So lets hope he can truly make a difference with the organization.
