Elliotte Friedman Reveals Failed Acquisition By GM Chris Drury and The New York Rangers
It appears that New York Rangers GM Chris Drury was attempting to add another bruiser at the beginning of free agency. According to reports from Elliotte Friedman of the 32 TP, the Rangers were interested in UFA Tanner Jeannot who ended up signing with the Boston Bruins instead.
The New York Rangers could've signed another bruiser who could've made the team difficult to "play against".
However, according to reports from NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, the Rangers were in the running with the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs as suitors for Tanner Jeannot.
Jeannot started his NHL career with the Nashville Predators with much fanfare, as a power forward who would excel in his first year in the NHL. He'd score 41 points (24-17) in 82 games with the Predators in 2021-22.
Since he left Nashville, he's found himself in more of a bottom-six role, being primarily a forechecker and an enforcer.
But the Boston Bruins and Don Sweeney found value in what he could contribute to an NHL roster, which embodies the spirit of the "Big Bad Bruins". He had 89 PIMs this season as a Los Angeles King.
He'll stick up for his teammates and has no issues throwing the gloves, much like Matt Rempe.
However, you do have to ponder what GM Chris Drury's end game was if he landed Jeannot. Would Matt Rempe be the next player to be traded during the retooling, which never seems to end?
Regardless, Don Sweeney rewarded him with a five-year, $3.4 million AAV deal that expires in 2029-30.
Do you think Tanner Jeannot would've been a good fit for the New York Rangers? Let us know in the poll down below.
