One Team is Not Happy With Late Season Opener
30 teams have played their first game to start the 2023-2024 NHL season.
Six teams have already played their second game. There are two teams that have yet to have played a single game; the New York Islanders and the Anaheim Ducks.
By the time their long wait ends tonight, 30 NHL teams will have played their second game, with some playing their third. Even Anaheim will play their first game, 30 minutes before the Islanders'.
Bo Horvat, center for the Islanders, doesn't seem pleased with the long wait:
"It's not ideal, Sick of practicing and sick of not playing hockey games. You want to get going with it. It's been a long week, but gives us extra time to prepare and get ready for Saturday."
There doesn't seem to be an obvious disadvantage for the Islanders starting their season this late.
If anything, you can argue they have the advantage, going up against a Buffalo Sabres team that will be playing its second game, after getting crushed 5-1 by the New York Rangers.
They even have extra time to prepare and get ready for tonight's game.
We will see tonight if the long wait to open the season was a blessing or a curse.
The New York Islanders will be hosting the Buffalo Sabres, at the UBS Arena, in Elmont, NY.
