The current NHL playoff format has angered many NHL fans over the past several years as its current setup is designed to create rivalries and make the first round of the playoffs one of the most difficult to get out of.
Year after year, so many great teams that have worked their butts off to try to get into the playoffs get knocked out by an equal opponent rather than a weaker opponent like it was back in the 1990s.
Members of the Spittin Chiclets explained during their latest episode that the Central division winner is the most important playoff spot in the NHL.
In the old system when it was the one through 8 conference playoffs, as it currently stands the avalanche would play Nashville, Dallas would play the LA kings and the Winnipeg Jets would play the Edmonton Oilers in the first round.
Certainly a vastly different outlook if it was in the old system rather than the current system.
But as many people have said, you must face them no matter what no matter which round you're in and if your team is any good you should be able to get past them.
The Western Conference will be an absolute fascinating playoff as so many teams could easily go to the Stanley Cup finals.
