Ryan Lindgren: emerges as a trade candidate for the Rangers heading into 2024-2025
The New York Rangers are in a predicament with defenseman, Ryan Lindgren. Once again the "warrior" on the Rangers is out of the lineup.
This could lead to some negative consequences for the Rangers and Lindgren. They need him to be healthy and contribute to the team's long-term success, but he's been out often and injured more than they'd like.
He was recently signed to a one-year $4.5 Million deal and was placed on injured reserve to start the new season.
His new contract will expire at the end of the season, and was signed for one year to prove to the team he can be a long-term solution on the defense.
But that has proven to be incorrect as the future UFA, as it seems he could miss out on a deal that keeps him in New York long-term if this season isn't successful.
Ryan Lindgren has made a list with the latest news:
"Players that teams would much rather NOT trade, but might ultimately have to by the trade deadline."
Adam Herman of Bleacher Report suggests that the team may have other plans and isn't sold on him as an option now. They're now exploring the idea of a trade for the former top-pairing defenseman.
"able to swing a trade for a high-end left-handed defenseman at the deadline, they could consider moving Lindgren out"
Which could end up being the solution much to the chagrin of Lindgren and the Rangers.
This idea could solve two problems with one move, as they could clear cap space to sign
Igor Shesterkin with. As he recently rejected an $88 Million deal, with an 8-year term.
While they could fetch some good assets and draft capital in return for the defenseman the price for defenseman in the NHL seems to be rising in the last few years.
