New York Rangers To Reunite With Former Top-Six Center As New Intriguing Trade Proposal Emerges

As the 2025-26 season nears, the New York Rangers are still looking to bolster their roster, and a new intriguing trade proposal from Heavy.com that see's the New York Rangers reuniting with former forward to provide depth down the middle.

That player being, Andrew Copp, who is currently playing with the Detroit Red Wings.

Copp briefly played for the New York Rangers during the 2021-22 season, after he was acquired in a trade deadline deal, but then quickly left the organization during free agency to the Detroit Red Wings. However, the Rangers now have a chance to bring him back and add solid depth to their lineup.

Here's a look at what this trade idea could look like:

According to this proposed trade, the Red Wings would have to retain about 50% of Copp's $5.625 million cap hit for this season and the 2026-27 season. If that wasn't possible, then the Rangers would have to do some deep cap clearing to acquire Copp as they only have $777,976 in cap space.

On the other hand, if the Red Wings expected the Rangers to take on Copp's entire cap hit, then the price to acquire the 30-year old forward would be much lower, such as landing Copp for future considerations.
