The New York Rangers made a bold move, acquiring defenceman Carson Soucy at the trade deadline -- a trade that's already paying dividend.
The New York Rangers took on the pesky Ottawa Senators today during a matinee matchup.
Unfortunately for the Rangers, they fell shy of a big two points, losing by a score of 4-3 in overtime.
Despite the loss, the game offered a few moral victories, including Carson Soucy's first goal as a Ranger.
Carson Soucy delivered his first game
According to the NHL, Soucy, who was acquired in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 8:37 of the first period when his wrist shot snuck past Ullmark and trickled over the goal line after a whistle
The initial call on the ice was no goal, but a video review determined the puck crossed the line on a continuous play, and the call on the ice was overturned.
As Chris Drury mentioned before, the Rangers can expect major contributions from Soucy for years to come, as he is no longer considered a "rental" player.
While Soucy's first tally as a Ranger was huge, today's loss to the Sens stings.
The Rangers are currently in a dog-fight for a wildcard spot, and the Senators are one of the teams who can seriously challenge them.
Although the Rangers managed to scrape out a point, they currently find themselves on the outside looking in, falling down one spot in the wildcard standings.
The Rangers will look for a major bounce-back when they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday -- another huge test for the Blue Shirts.
