New York Rangers recent move to sign two-time Stanley Cup champion Conor Sheary to a Professional Tryout will come with major implications that most fans don't realize.
However, this move was made by GM Chris Drury to add some depth to the lineup while giving Sullivan some familiarity in the lineup. For Sheary, he thrived under Sullivan, where he put up a career high of 53 points during the 2016-17 season.
The 33-year-old veteran played for the Tampa Bay Lightning last season, but had his contract bought out by GM Julien Brisebois.
Implications of the New York Rangers signing Conor Sheary
Just last season, Conor Sheary only played five games in the National Hockey League with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and didn't tally a single point until after November 30th. A clear sign that his time in the NHL may be at an end.
Unfortunately there's no telling whether or not Mike Sullivan had a hand in the New York Rangers signing Sheary, but his own personal viewpoint shouldn't be the reason the Rangers miss out on success in the future.
As far as we can tell, Sheary shouldn't stand in the way of Brennan Othmman, Gabe Perreault, and
Brett Berard that we know.
