Veteran forward Vincent Trocheck makes strong bid to be named the New York Rangers next captain

New York Rangers veteran forward shows great leadership skills while issuing a strong statement regarding the Rangers extremely disappointing 2024-25 season.
It has now been two weeks since the New York Rangers most disappointing season in franchise history has came to an end, as they failed to make the playoffs just a year after winning the Presidents Trophy.
The New York Rangers have already begun to prepare for next season, as they have fired head coach Peter Laviolette, and gave a multi-year extension to GM Chris Drury.
New York Rangers desperately need leadership within the locker-room
Ever since the organization traded their former captain Jacob Trouba mid-season, the team has been without a direct leader. However, if anyone has a good chance at becoming the 29th captain in franchise history, it would be Vincent Trocheck.
Vincent Trocheck has embraced the leadership within the locker room for the last few years since being with the Rangers, and now with his latest statement he makes a good case to become the next captain:
«I want to be a part of the reason that we do right the ship,» Trocheck said on breakup day. «We don't have very many opportunities to win a Stanley Cup and that's the whole reason why everybody in this locker room plays the game. I'm looking forward to having this summer to figure things out. I have a lot of things in mind that we can work on and get better at. I do take responsibility for a lot of it.»
Clearly there is a lot of work to be done over the offseason for the Rangers. However, naming a captain for the upcoming season should be a priority, as former Rangers legend Mark Messier believes that's the first thing the team should be doing:
Trocheck will be among the candidates to become the next captain of the Rangers, and he truly spoke like one in front of the media after this brutal season was over.
«We saw what we were capable of last year, (2023-24)» Trocheck explained. «We got a lot of time this summer to go back and look at what we can do better. I really believe in this locker room, I believe in everybody, I obviously believe in the talent we have and I just think it's a matter of us as a team sticking together and figuring out the right way to go about things moving into next year.»
