Peter Laviolette reveals the reasoning behind healthy scratching a top Rangers prospect
New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette makes another questionable decision before tonight's matchup against the Winnipeg Jets.
As the New York Rangers hit the ice for their morning skate and ran their rushes, one noticeable player was seen on the sidelines instead of participating in the drills.
That player being the New York Rangers top prospect
Brett Berard, according to several reports Berard will be a healthy scratch for tonight's game despite the level of energy he brings to the team.
Just based of the Rangers lineup this morning, it definitely confirms Berard will be out for tonight's game, here's a look:
#NYR lines and D pairs at morning skate:
Panarin-Trocheck-Lafrenière
Cuylle-Miller-Zibanejad
Kreider-Carrick-Kaliyev
Othmann-Brodzinski-Rempe
Miller-Borgen
Vaakanainen-Schneider
Soucy-Jones
Certainly a questionable decision, considering how great he's been with the team. However, head coach Peter Laviolette did give an explanation behind his decision, here's what he had to say:
Laviolette on the decision to scratch Berard:
"It's 12 forwards that can go in, and so, it's tough. But he's a young player. You can see the energy. We talk with him and work with him on the game and the defensive part of it to try and continue to grow his game and improve his game. But you've got to love his fire and his energy that he brings."
Hopefully this was the right move, as forward
Arthur Kaliyev will be slotting in to fill his position. Tonight game between the New York Rangers and Winnipeg Jets will be 8:00PM, a game where the Rangers desperately need to get two-points.
