New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury will be looking for upgrades with his bottom six forwards and pending free agent Adam Gaudette of the Ottawa Senators could be the answer he is looking for.
Gaudette had a great season for the Senators and put himself on the map after being visible and effective during the first round against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Gaudette pleased with his season's performance
This year, Gaudette managed to score 19 goals and was an important part of shutting down the Toronto Maple Leafs top lines during the first round.
After the Senators were eliminated from the playoffs, Gaudette Spoke about his season and that he feels he is in a good position for a raise and more teams being interested in him.
«I think the stock has definitely risen,» Gaudette said after the Senators were eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
«That was a personal goal of mine, proving that I am an everyday NHL player and finally getting over that hump of, is he an AHL player or NHL player? I had personal goals when I signed here and pretty much nailed everyone.» - Adam Gaudette
He currently holds a cap hot of $775,000 And will be an unrestricted free agent going into the summer.
He had 26 points playing in an NHL career-high 81 games, averaging 10:25 TOI. His 19 goals were sixth on the Senators; and in the playoffs, Gaudette was tied for fifth in scoring for Ottawa with three points (one goal, two assists) in six games. - Jim Cerny
Rangers would benefit from Gaudette on their bottom six
General manager Chris Drury has made it clear that his team will not look the same going into next season.
With Mike Sullivan taking over the bench, the Rangers will be more aggressive on their forecheck and have more physicality in their game which seems to be the ingredients to win a Stanley Cup.
«Good playoff teams need a good bottom six to support them through the playoffs,» he said. «I accepted my fourth-line center role and ran with it.» Adam Gaudette
Since the Rangers are on a cap squeeze and Gaudette will be available, it's possible that they could land him at a reasonable cost and help the bottom six improve their defensive game while adding much needed secondary scoring which plagued the Rangers all year.
The Rangers will have to wait till July 1st to see if they can land him but in the meantime they will be working on their NHL Entry Draft plants as it's set to begin on June 27th.
