Weekes seems to suggest that the Russian netminder will land an 8-year deal worth $11.5 million per season. That number will put him well past the top paid former player in the NHL former goaltender of the Montreal Canadiens Carey Price who holds the record of $10.5 million per season.
If Shesterkin signed this deal he will become the highest paid goaltender in NHL history and will also shift the landscape and help prop future goaltenders in their quest for more money. He currently is in his final year of his deal of four years at $22.67 million. His cap hit is currently 5.66 million per season and he was a fourth-round draft pick in 2014 by the Rangers 118th overall.
It's safe to say with the fantastic start to the season for the Rangers and the continued superb play by Shesterkin who holds a record of 6-2-1 with a save percentage of .933 and a goal against of 2.22, It's likely he will get whatever contract he asks for especially since he has already won a Vezina trophy.
Rumors have suggested that a signing is closing in and it was well documented a few weeks back when it became public that sister can decided to reject the Rangers deal which would have given him a contract of $88 million at $11 million AAV.
The Rangers will be on the road as they will take on the Detroit Red Wings on October 9th after they suffered a 6-1 loss to the lowly Buffalo Sabres. Game time will be at 7:00 PM eastern.
