The New York Rangers are gearing up for what should be an entertaining March 7th NHL trade deadline, and recent reports indicate that the GM Chris Drury has his eyes set on pulling the trigger on a blockbuster trade.
Well folks, the New York Rangers are heading into one of the most important trade deadlines in recent memory.
With a shot a postseason contention very much still on the table, the New York Rangers are aggressively on the hunt for a prized asset to get them over the hump.
New York Rangers gearing up for blockbuster trade
I think it's pretty safe to say that this season hasn't exactly gone according to plan.
While this season has undoubtedly been a massive disappointment for Rangers fans, all hope is not lost. The team still has several options to consider as the deadline approaches.
With roughy $15 million in accrued cap space to work with, the time is now for Chris Drury to execute a blockbuster trade to give his team a fighting chance at playoff contention.
Recently, the Rangers sent shockwaves down the NHL by acquiring former disgruntled Vancouver Canucks superstar
J.T. Miller, and similar move could position the Rangers to take the last wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.
Chris Drury has a few pending UFA's in his back pocket that could be used as trade bait to acquire a potential rental at the deadline.
Additionally, fans will will remember when GM Chris Drury announced a fire sale back in November, naming
Chris Kreider and ex-captain
Jacob Trouba as available for trade.
While it's important to mention Kreider's 15-team no-trade list, including him into a potential blockbuster trade isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility and could be an effective way to free up additional cap space.
The Rangers could look to a couple familiar trade partners in their effort to bulk up on the left side. Seattle's
Jamie Oleksiak ($4.6M AAV through next season) and Vancouver's
Carson Soucy ($3.25M AAV through next season) are a couple monsters on skates at 6-foot-5 or taller who could help fill the void.

Do the Rangers shock the hockey world and make a trade for the ages? Or does Chris Drury ride out the storm with his current roster? Time will tell.
