The New York Rangers organization received great news as top head coach candidate David Carle of the University of Denver has withdrawn himself from the Chicago Blackhawks list.

Many pundits across the NHL feel that Carle would be a good fit for the Rangers after the team was the Presidents Trophy winners last year and failed to make the playoffs this year.

Carle will receive lots of attention for jobs in the NHL

The 35-year-old head coach has become a hot commodity throughout the NHL and the NCAA as he has taken the University of Denver winning the NCAA Frozen Four Championships in 2022 and 2024 and won gold in 2024 and 2025 the IIHF world junior championships.
Rangers General manager Chris Drury has stated that the team will look different next year and will need a different voice and different direction which could lead the team to look at Carle as an option.
The team appears to be ready to inject younger players into the lineup as Rangers star forwards Gabriel Perreault who was coached by Carle and Brennan Othmann to name a few are ready to make the leap into the NHL on a full-time basis.
32 Thoughts Podcaster and Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman also waiting the possibility of Carle becoming the head coach of the Rangers with Drury stating that he is willing to give a first-time coach a chance.
To me, the most fascinating thing is: What exactly are they (the Rangers) looking for? And the fact that [Drury] said first timer, says to me they make a call to Carle and will try to figure out what the rest of this is.

Carle would step into the biggest hockey market in the NHL

If Carle decides to interview for the Rangers job and is chosen, he will be stepping into the biggest hockey market in the NHL which is a much different position that he currently has in the University of Denver.
One aspect of the Rangers that could entice him would be the good pool of prospects, a team that was one of the best in the NHL one year ago and the notoriety of being the head coach of the New York Rangers.
It will all depend on how this shakes out as other candidates will emerge an interview for the position but Carle is certainly the top candidate.
