The New York Rangers began their major change to their line up after making a trade with the Anaheim Ducks seeing Chris Kreider head to the West Coast in exchange for Ducks prospect Carey Terrance and a swap of draft picks.

This move will open substantial cap space as the Rangers have now recuperated $6.5 million per season over the next two years and will give them more money to work with to add to their roster.

Frank Seravalli thinks the Rangers will improve through addition

During the Wednesday episode of daily face off live, Frank Seravalli predicts that the Rangers will likely improve their roster through addition whether it's through trade or through free agency.
I think they're definitely interested in trying to make their team a lot better by addition. Still to be determined, seems very likely at this point that K'Andre Miller is on the move as they reinvent their defense. Which top end defenseman are they going to go after? They have to find a way to defend better.

I know there's been lots of speculation about potential interest in Vladislav Gavrikov, which you could see making some sense on the left side. Short of that, I think they're a team that doesn't see any point in sitting back and just plodding along here. They want to move the needle. This is why they're tearing down part of their core that's been there for a long time Just making the playoffs, just getting to the conference final, just winning the Presidents' Trophy, that doesn't mean anything to them. They want to win the Stanley Cup. - Frank Seravalli

This move will be the beginning of a series of moves that general manager Chris Drury will be prepared to do which may include the trade of defenseman K'Andre Miller as he is set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.
Rumors have been swirling around the organization the Rangers have a desire to change the look of their lineup and the way they play now that they have hired their former assistant coach and former Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan.

Expect more moves in the coming weeks for the Rangers

The team along with every other team in the NHL will have opportunities to add to their roster as the NHL Entry Draft will be set for June 27th.
Many NHL general managers wait for that day to make major deals as all NHL players will be available for trade as the season would have come to an end and the Stanley Cup has been awarded.
July 1st will also be another date of importance as several key free agents will become available including Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Sam Bennett of the Florida Panthers and Brad Marchand for the Panthers.
It's safe to say that the Rangers would like to have as much cap space as possible especially if there is a desire to bring one of these stars into the fold.
It will be a fascinating offseason for the Rangers as they attempt to make a quick turn around on their roster and tried to get back into playoff contention after missing the playoffs this year.
