New York Rangers left with two alternatives after re-signing Kaapo Kakko
The New York Rangers have made it official by signing Kaapo Kakko to a one-year $2.4 million contract on Thursday, which is his qualifying offer.
After the announcement today there has been lots of speculation on how the Rangers will handle the situation of Kakko and his contract, as they now have two options.
Option one, the Rangers can continue to work with Kaapo Kakko and see if he is able to break through and reach his full potential.
However, with option two, the Rangers could also try and make a trade considering he is on an affordable contract for other teams to take on.
Kakko was the second over all pick after being selected by the New York Rangers in the 2019 NHL Draft, but just hasn't quite lived up to the high expectations throughout his first five years in the NHL.
Especially this past season, as the 23-year old only had 19 points (13 goals, 6 assists) while averaging 13:16 minutes of ice time.
