The New York Rangers are in a precarious spot, as Adam Fox has opined on their chance of being eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs. Tonight they can hold on if they beat their Long Island rivals, the New York Islanders.
The New York Rangers' chance to win a wildcard spot in the playoffs is still a viable option. But for the team itself, they'll need to hold off from being eliminated from the playoffs first, which means defeating their Long Island rivals, the Islanders, tonight.
The game begins at 6:30 PM, and Adam Fox was asked about how he felt with his team facing elimination.
The team is 36-35-7, 6th in the Metropolitan Division, and has failed to live up to the moniker of the comeback kids, which was a nickname rightfully earned last season.
This year, they might as well be called the garbagemen.
Fox is rightfully angry as the team has failed to play any consistent hockey, with some positive upswings during the season, but nothing that sustained.
The result? The team is eight points from the Montreal Canadiens, who hold the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
According to MoneyPuck.com, the
Rangers' odds are terrible. This late in the season, they give them a .1% chance of making the playoffs this year.
PlayoffStatus.com gives an in-depth look at options for possible elimination scenarios.
Spot #8
Case 1
Rangers lose to the Islanders
Case 2
Canadiens beat the Senators
Case 3
Senators beat the Canadiens in OT or in a shootout
Either way, the Rangers need to hold on tight and win against Patrick Roy's Islanders.
