It's been reported that the New York Rangers starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin will be returning to the Rangers lineup as the Four Nations tournament has drawn to a close and the season is set to resume on Saturday.
It was reported by Peter Baugh of the Athletic, That he will be healthy to face off against the Buffalo Sabres after being injured by an upper body injury on February 7th after the Rangers loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
4 Nations break proved vital for Shesterkin's health
The stretch run along with the March trade deadline are the next two key times for the Rangers and a major decision will be needed from general manager Chris Drury as the Rangers currently sit three points out of a playoff spot after having a dismal yet disastrous November and December.
Part of this resurgence was Sheshterkin's play as he had gone 6-0-1 with a .948 save percentage through the first seven games of January which helped the Rangers stabilize their season and begin the climb back into playoff contention.
Rangers looking to be buyers at the deadline
There's a strong possibility that Drury will attempt to improve his roster at the trade deadline while looking over his pending unrestricted free agents. This season has been one of remodeling and changing the complexion of the Rangers while trying to remain competitive as the team attempts to get back into the playoffs.
It remains to be seen on how he will handle these next coming weeks as the team will settle into their busy schedule and with a little luck they will be back in the playoffs in less than a month.
