The New York Rangers organization has been busy stunning fans on Friday morning, first with the signing of head coach Mike Sullivan and now they announce a very unexpected contract extension that has taken fans by surprise.

On Friday afternoon, the General Manager Chris Drury and the New York Rangers announced that they have signed forward Juuso Parssinen to a contract extension.
The New York Rangers and forward Juuso Parssinen have agreed to terms on a two-year, $2.5 million contract extension. Starting next season, Parssinen will carry a $1.25 million cap hit for the Rangers, as reported by The Athletic's Peter Baugh.
Rangers are extending Juuso Pärssinen, per a league source, on a two-year deal at $1.25 million.

That'll leave the Rangers with around $8.422 million in cap space. They still have other RFAs to sign (Cuylle, Miller, Rempe, Edström, etc.).

The 24-year old forward was acquired by the New York Rangers from the Colorado Avalanche back on March 1st, in a trade that sent Ryan Lindgren the opposite way.
Since joining the New York Rangers this season the 6-foot-3 forward managed to tally two goals, five assists, for a total of seven points.
Parssinen Will Continue To Provide Rangers With More Depth

This deal is an extremely low-risk move by the Rangers, as they didn't over spend to keep Parssinen with the organization.
Along with the forward only being 24-years old, he still has a lot of time to develop and transform into his full potential. Over the eleven games he played with the Rangers he looked very solid and confident in his play.
In 137 career NHL games over three seasons, Parssinen has 20 goals, 33 assists, 53 points, and 224 hits. His best season was back in 2022-23 with the Predators, where he had six goals and set career highs with 19 assists and 25 points.
