New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette officially speaks out on Chris Drury's recent decision to sign defenseman Will Borgen to a lengthy five-year contract extension worth a total of $20.5 Million.

The Rangers extend Will Borgen. Five years at $4.1 million AAV.

As part of Will Borgen's deal, he has a no-movement clause the rest of 2024-25, then partial trade protection for most of the rest of the deal, per a source.

2026-27: 15 team no-trade lost
2027-28: 10 team NT list
2028-29: 6 team NT list
2029-30: none
Will Borgen has truly proven himself to be a solid defender this season, and that's something the Rangers desperately needed.
However, head coach Peter Laviolette addressed the media before today's game against the Colorado Avalanche and gave his honest opinion on the signing.
Here's what he had to say:
Laviolette on the #NYR signing Will Borgen:
"I think it's a I think it's a really good sign for us. He's come in here, played really good defense, physical, moves really well. He's added some offense as well, and I think just really helped solidify what we have here already."
