Victor Mancini was taken aback when he found out he was traded from the New York Rangers to the Vancouver Canucks. The emotions he felt were a ranger of unease to excitement, as he realized the Canucks organization wanted him, amidst the turmoil of New York.
Victor Mancini got to escape the dumpster fire of the New York Rangers organization when GM Chris Drury facilitated a trade that sent him and center
Filip Chytil to Vancouver in return for
J.T. Miller.
Mancini hadn't gotten a lot of chance to play in New York and was stuck in Hartford getting ready to play that night, until he was pulled aside after warmups and told he wasn't going. This was according to management's decision.
The reason? Mancini wouldn't figure it out until later when his friends sent him tweets detailing the trade mentioned by NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman.
All of this was happening while Mancini was getting out of his uniform, and he wasn't sure if it was true at the time.
But, it turned out to be a legitimate trade, and while the chaos of it all might've given him some uneasy feelings, especially having to change organizations, he was excited about getting to play in Vancouver.
A team that went to the Western Conference Semifinals in 2023-2024.
Mancini would play a total of 16 games for the Canucks this year, scoring 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists). He'd play 7 games in Abbotsford, scoring 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists), and could be a top prospect in the system.
While the young defenseman could find more playing time in a Canucks organization that will be going through some major changes.
The only question is now, who will replace Rick Tocchet in Vancouver? For now Mancini
