It was apparent after the hiring of Mike Sullivan by GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers, David Carle wasn't their guy. But that didn't mean other NHL clubs weren't interested. After withdrawing consideration from the Blackhawks job, it now seems he's staying put in the NCAA.

Neither the New York Rangers, or Chicago Blackhawks will have to worry about hiring Denver Pioneers' Head Coach David Carle. It appears instead of being lured to the NHL, he will remain loyal to the University he's coached at his entire career.
He's staying put in Denver.
You know the saying, if it's not broke, don't fix it? It seems to be true here.
Carle has a reason to stay; he's successful in the NCAA and has led the team to two championships at the collegiate level.
His current record? 179-74-17.
In 2024-2025, he had a record of 32-12-1 and reached the NCAA Frozen Four for the second year in a row.
His record in the NCAA alone could've netted him a big payday, but instead, he chose loyalty over money and the notoriety that could've come with a gig in the NHL.
Named the ninth Denver hockey head coach in program history on May 25, 2018, Carle was 28 years old at the time of his hire and was youngest head coach in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey. He first joined DU as a student assistant coach from 2008-2012 and later served four and a half seasons as a full-time assistant coach under Jim Montgomery (2014-2018), reaching two Frozen Fours and winning the 2017 national championship.

He served under one of the best NHL coaches at the moment from 2014-2018, under Jim Montgomery, who took an underdog St. Louis Blues team to the Stanley Cup playoffs. A real scrappy bunch.
It seems ashamed we'll never see Montgomery's protege behind an NHL bench anytime soon, but for now we'll cross our fingers.
