Conflicting reports have just surfaced regarding John Tortorella's fate with the New York Rangers following recent announcement from ESPN's Emily Kaplan.

Late on Friday evening, NHL Insider Emily Kaplan revealed that there was some talk about former Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella would be returning to the Rangers organization in a supporting role, likely as an assistant coach.
something that a lot of fans were excited about, especially as the New York Rangers have just confirmed that they hired Mike Sullivan as their head coach.
Kaplan, revealed that herself and Kevin Weekes felt that there was a strong possibility of Tortorella returning to Madison Square Garden.
Sounds like John Tortorella is a strong possibility to re-join the organization as well, @KevinWeekes and I have heard. David Quinn is not expected to follow Sullivan but will be a head coaching candidate, including in Pittsburgh.
however, following the announcement of Mike Sullivan's hiring with the New York Rangers, several reports surfaced saying that Tortorella will not be joining the team or Mike Sullivan on his coaching staff.
John Tortorella did speak with the Rangers but will not be re-joining after all.

Believe Sullivan's contract is for five years - and is the highest annual salary for a coach in NHL history.
Still to this moment, nothing has officially been confirmed by the New York Rangers organization themselves. So there is still a strong possibility that the New York Rangers and try and persuade him into joining Mike Sullivan.
Tortorella's first stint with the New York Rangers began in 2009 and ended in 2013. He'd end his time in New York having coached 319 games, with a record of 171-118-1-29, with a .583 winning percentage. So having Torts and Sully as the coaching staff would certainly be insane.
