The New York Rangers are under fire from fans following their announcement on signing their newly acquired defensemen to a lengthy contract extension.

It was recently announced from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and several other Rangers insiders, that Chris Drury and the New York Rangers have reached an agreement on a contract extension with newly acquired defenseman Will Borgen.
The 28-year old defenseman was dealt in a trade earlier this season, that seen Rangers former first round pick Kaapo Kakko go to the Seattle Kraken, in return for Will Borgen and a few draft picks.
The finalized deal appears to be a 5-year contract worth a total of $20.5 Million, which works out to be a $4.1 Million AAV.

2028-29: 6 team NT list
2029-30: none
However, following the contract extension several fans have expressed their concern with this signing as many believe the Rangers organization overpaid Borgen, here's what they had to say:
Based of Borgen's performance with the Rangers thus far, it's hard to say if the organization has overpaid for him or not, but in the end he brings a style of defensive play that the Rangers desperately need.
