Chris Drury and the New York Rangers under fire following their latest signing and fans aren't happy
The New York Rangers are under fire from fans following their announcement on signing their newly acquired defensemen to a lengthy contract extension.
It was recently announced from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and several other Rangers insiders, that Chris Drury and the New York Rangers have reached an agreement on a contract extension with newly acquired defenseman Will Borgen.
The 28-year old defenseman was dealt in a trade earlier this season, that seen Rangers former first round pick
Kaapo Kakko go to the Seattle Kraken, in return for Will Borgen and a few draft picks.
The finalized deal appears to be a 5-year contract worth a total of $20.5 Million, which works out to be a $4.1 Million AAV.

Along with that NHL Insider Peter Baugh has also revealed some further details on the trade, as Borgen now has a no-movement clause for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, along with partial trade protection for the remainder of his contract.
As part of Will Borgen's deal, he has a no-movement clause the rest of 2024-25, then partial trade protection for most of the rest of the deal, per a source.
2025-26: Full no-trade
2026-27: 15 team no-trade lost
2027-28: 10 team NT list
2028-29: 6 team NT list
2029-30: none
However, following the contract extension several fans have expressed their concern with this signing as many believe the Rangers organization overpaid Borgen, here's what they had to say:
Based of Borgen's performance with the Rangers thus far, it's hard to say if the organization has overpaid for him or not, but in the end he brings a style of defensive play that the Rangers desperately need.
