The New York Rangers are excited as they have just made a huge signing, with Alexis Lafreniere being a Blueshirt for the next seven seasons.

The deal will total $52.15 million for the winger, who had a career year in 2023-2024 playing with linemates Vinnie Troecheck and Artemi Panarin.

In 2023-2024 he scored 57 points( 28 G, 29 A) and was a key piece in the 2nd line for the Rangers, with Lafreniere proving himself to be a great two-way player.

This morning after practice he was asked about his new deal with the team:

«It's great. It's a long deal,» Lafreniere said. «I love playing here. So it's really good for me to stay for a long time.»

The deal begins in 2025-2026, and it shows how excited he is to play in New York, as his production this season he's been a point-per-game player for the Rangers and is a key piece in the lineup. He's scored 7 points( 4 G, 3 A) in seven games, a good sign here's here to stay in the Rangers top-six.

After he arrived in New York, it seemed that many thought he would be a bust as his best seasons prior to 2023-2024 saw him post around 39 points(2022-2023) with 16 goals, and 23 assists.

Last season he remarkedly put it all together and became a high-scoring, two-way winger, the winger the Rangers originally drafted 1st overall in 2020.

Now he can focus on playing hockey and forget about dreadful contract negotiations. Tonight the Rangers play the Anaheim Ducks, as the rebuilding Ducks and Cutter Gauthier would love to get a win against the NHL's best team in the league.

Not if Lafreniere has anything to say about it though. Lafreniere has looked great on ice in 2023-2024, and could easily be said he's lived up to Scouting Reports in recent years.

Was the Canadian Hockey League's Rookie of the Year as a 16-year-old and the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft two years later, so he is used to being in the spotlight and handling the pressure that goes along with it. Has all the tools to be an elite offensive player, both as a shooter and playmaker. He is also not shy about physical contact and steps up in big situations, but is still learning about life in the NHL (especially when he does not have the puck).

By all intents and purposes, the bust allegations have been defeated, now he needs to remain consistent for Peter Laviolette and his linemates deep into 2024,, as they hunt for a Stanley Cup.

Do you think Alexis Lafreniere will grow into a 100-point forward in the future?
